Q: How much does this program cost?
A: Participation in this program includes your annual comprehensive physical exam and ongoing access to medical care, as well as house and office calls. The cost is $4500 per year for each adult family member. Children under age 18 are $200 per month with a member adult. It is necessary for children to maintain their regular pediatrician for annual check-ups and monitoring for growth and development milestones. Payment is charged at the beginning of every month to a Visa or MasterCard.
Q: What if I don't want 24/7 access?
A: Dr. Phelan's office also offers a more traditional medical experience under a retainer fee of $175 per month. This includes your annual comprehensive physical exam and ongoing access to medical care and the office, hospital visits, basic immunizations, and email access.
Q: How do I reach Dr. Phelan?
A: Upon joining the program, you will be given a card listing your medications, allergies and Dr. Phelan's personal cell phone. Only Total Care practice patients have access to this number. The office is open from 8:30 a.m.to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday (except holidays) and at other pre-arranged times for urgent needs. During office hours, if Dr. Phelan is with a patient, our staff will take your phone call directly. Dr. Phelan will then personally return your call as soon as possible. When not with a patient or after hours, phone calls will be answered or returned promptly by Dr. Phelan. Non-emergent questions can be sent via email.
Q: What is Corporate Care?
A: Designated employees of a company, managers, and family members can become patients in our practice and have direct cell phone and email access to Dr. Phelan 24/7. Dr. Phelan also visits the workplace twice a month for employee consultations. This is an exceptional health benefit for a company & focuses on employee wellness.
Q: What if I need to see a specialist?
A: We refer patients to a hand-selected network of dedicated specialists, and for laboratory and radiological services as needed. Since these services are typically covered by insurance plans, patients can continue to use their regular insurance for these services. We will be happy to help patients access insurance benefits for any covered services.
Q: What if I require hospitalization?
A: Dr. Phelan has active staff privileges at Stanford University Hospital. Should you need to be hospitalized, Dr. Phelan will care for you there, coordinating your care with the hospital staff and our specialists. Should you desire admission or care at another hospital, Dr. Phelan will work closely with your admitting MD or hospitalist.
Q: What do I do in an emergency?
A: In any emergency, you should call 911 or go directly to the nearest emergency room. The emergency room staff can then call Dr. Phelan.
